I must say that I’m immediately impressed by Proud Source water. The young man’s pH test shows that Proud Source has a pH of 8.1.
Also, the TDS reading of 132 ppm is perfect for mountain spring water. In case you’re wondering, TDS (total dissolved solids) is a measure of the mineral content in the water.
Alkaline minerals including calcium, magnesium, and potassium are typically what raise the pH of the water to make it more alkaline.

Unlike other alkaline water brands, Proud Source water is 100% natural. All the minerals in this water come from the Earth and are not artificially added.

Proud Source water starts in an aquifer in the Northern Rocky Mountains.
The company later bottles it in Idaho after it’s filtered its way through the Earth. This process allows the water to soak up a healthy dose of minerals along its path.
Proud Source’s facility uses a Gravity Fed Water Supply system and zero energy to extract the water from the Earth.
They definitely have one of the more unique processes I’ve seen of any bottled alkaline water brand.
My Review
Now it’s time for my Proud Source water review. I feel qualified to deliver you an unbiased and accurate review after reviewing a long list of bottled alkaline water brands.
The process has helped me grow a keen eye for spotting a quality product.
Likes
- I really, really like the aluminum can idea to cut down on plastic waster. During my alkaline water research, I’ve come to realize how serious of a problem plastic waste is on our planet. The oceans are full of plastic waste. The last thing we need is more plastic waste on Earth, even if it is BPA-free.
- Proud Source reminds me of Coors Light (my favorite beer), minus the beer part. The design of the bottle is cool, plus the aluminum keeps the water colder longer.
- The blend of alkaline minerals and optimum TDS are some of the best I’ve seen in any alkaline water brand.
- I like the added benefit of silica.
- The pH of 8.1 is within the ideal range for me. I stay between 8 and 9.5.
- The fact that this water starts in the Rocky Mountains and is 100% natural is a huge bonus.
Dislikes
- I’ve noticed a trend among alkaline spring water brands that irritates me. They’re all attacking ionized water and spreading misinformation. Since I drink ionized water every day, and it’s the only water that helped me end my heartburn problem, I don’t like to see these companies attack it. I think it makes Proud Source and others look bad when they spread false information about ionized water to sell more of their own products.
- One of the reasons I prefer ionized water over domestic spring water extracted from aquifers is the questionable effect extracting water from aquifers has on the environment. Also, what gives companies like Proud Source the right to sell water that’s from a domestic natural source? Is alkaline water the new oil in America?
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think Proud Source naturally alkaline spring water is one of the better bottled alkaline water brands currently on the market.
There are several others that simply add minerals to their water to boost the pH. For example, the popular brand LIFEWTR adds a mineral blend to reverse osmosis water, and their water is still slightly acidic. I actually show you how to make LIFEWTR at home with a reverse osmosis filtration system and a remineralization cartridge for a lot less money.
My one qualm with Proud Source is the extraction of water from domestic aquifers. Should companies be allowed to pull water from natural sources in America, then turn around and sell it for a premium price? Also, what effect does this extraction have on the surrounding environment? I plan to look deeper into this topic in the near future.
However, I do like the idea of metal cans. The growing amount of plastic waste is a very real problem.
